Wednesday, July 30 brought the latest episode of Farmers Market to the Community Center Park near downtown Riverbank.

In addition to the usual vendors and craftspeople selling their wares, sponsor Riverbank Chamber of Commerce invited Bob Hopper to return singing his classic tunes. Also, the chamber invited local motorcyclists to come and display their bikes for the crowd. Unfortunately, only a few participated, one of which was Riverbank Motor Patrol Officer Gary Vernon with his new Harley-Davidson.

Tonight, Aug. 6, the Chamber is hosting a ‘Back to School’ Night at Farmers Market. They’re doing a backpack drive to collect the backpacks for Riverbank school children. Their goal is at least 500 backpacks to give to some of the 3,000 school children who live in Riverbank.

To help gather the needed items, the chamber has challenged other local community organizations to help out.

The Farmers Market is held weekly on Wednesdays, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Community Center Park, 3600 Santa Fe, near downtown Riverbank.

People that want to bring the school backpacks to the market this evening can drop them off at the Chamber booth, with officials making sure they get into the hands of students who need them.
