Low-Cost Snip Bus Rolls Into California’s Central Valley

Spay Neuter Imperative Project (SNIP), a 501(c)(3) mobile, low-cost spay and neuter clinic serving California’s Coachella Valley, Monterey County, San Benito County and Santa Cruz County, has now purchased a third fully-equipped mobile spay and neuter surgery unit to serve the Central Valley. The 20-foot trailer will serve Modesto, Atwater, Merced, Turlock, Fresno and surrounding areas offering low-cost spay and neuter clinics by a highly trained veterinary team for between $25-$75 per pet (depending on size). SNIP is committed to ending the suffering and death of perfectly healthy, unwanted animals due to overpopulation.

Originally founded in the Coachella Valley in June 2016, SNIP has provided low-cost spay/neuter services to over 10,000 dogs and cats since beginning. SNIP’s founder, Melanie Scherer, is originally from Modesto, California. She was motivated to expand SNIP into the Central Valley after seeing a news story reporting some of the country’s highest euthanization rates in the area.

“Rescue is not the only solution. We are working tirelessly to stop the core issue, reproduction of unwanted animals, by making low-cost spay/neuter clinics widely accessible,” Scherer said. “I am so honored to bring SNIP to serve my hometown of Modesto and surrounding areas.”

SNIP will kick off in Modesto on April 26 with a clinic open to the public at Stanislaus County Animal Shelter, 3647 Cornucopia Way, Modesto. The clinic starts at 9 a.m. Pet owners interested in making an appointment are urged to call SNIP at 925-895-8531. SNIP does not require proof of residency and aims to help as many people as possible.

SNIP is 100 percent community funded and needs help from local businesses and residents to sponsor these life-saving clinics. Although pet owners only pay $25 to $75 per animal for spay/neuter (depending on size), a single clinic costs $3,000 to alter between 26-32 animals including the cost of medicine and SNIP’s high-volume spay and neuter medical team. Please visit www.snipbus.org to learn more. SNIP would like to specifically thank American Chevrolet and Tru-Tech Roofing in Modesto for providing a truck that will pull the mobile surgery unit, as well as Dr. Katherine Kucera-Menghetti for sponsoring the Modesto clinics.

SNIP’s volunteers and Board of Directors receive no compensation for their services and all proceeds are used to purchase supplies to operate clinics at full capacity. SNIP is independently funded through community support.
