Mayor Gives City Notice

Just re-elected to the post of Riverbank City Mayor, Cris Crifasi will resign the seat at the end of the month.

He announced at the end of Monday night's Riverbank City Council meeting that he has accepted a job in the Bay Area and will resign the mayor's post because he will be relocating for his work.

Crifasi defeated challenger and former councilwoman Virginia Madueno in the November 2008 election, earning his second term as mayor. He received roughly 57 percent of the vote and the four-year term runs through 2012.

He told council members and those in attendance at the Jan. 12 meeting that when he decided to run for re-election, he was unaware of the job change to come. His resignation will be effective after he presides over the Jan. 26 council session.

Council members are expected to meet in special session to determine how to proceed; appointing a mayor, holding a special election or seeking applications to apply for the job and go through an interview process.
