An Oakdale man will likely face further court action and a Modesto man is dead following a vehicle vs. bicycle collision in Riverbank on Thursday, April 4.
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to the scene in the 6100 block of Claus Road in Riverbank about 11:30 a.m. Thursday to a report of an accident.
Deputies said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jordan Pomares-Boeh, 24, of Oakdale was contacted at the scene and investigators determined he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was traveling northbound on Claus Road when he swerved to the east side of the roadway, striking a bicyclist who was also on the eastbound side. The bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was identified as Jack Douglas Higgs, 70, of Modesto.
Pomares-Boeh was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on suspicion of driving under the influence causing death and gross vehicular manslaughter.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) assisted with the investigation of the incident.
