A Modesto motorcyclist was killed Saturday morning on State Route 108 north of Claribel Road when his bike collided with a vehicle driven by a Riverbank resident.

Michael Bell, 32, sustained fatal injuries when thrown from his motorcycle but the 22-year-old female driver involved, from Riverbank, was uninjured.

The crash occurred just before noon on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Bell was driving a 2001 Yamaha southbound on the highway at an undetermined but high rate of speed, according to the California Highway Patrol, which investigated the crash. The Riverbank woman was driving a 2010 Dodge and was preparing to enter northbound State Route 108 from a local business parking lot.

According to the CHP report, the driver did not see the Yamaha approaching in the southbound lane and started to cross that lane in a left-hand turn when the front of the Yamaha collided with the left side of the Dodge.

Both parties were using appropriate safety equipment for their respective vehicles and drug or alcohol use does not appear to have been a factor in the collision, the CHP report concluded.
