Riverbank residents over age 65 who are covered by Kaiser insurance were able to receive COVID vaccination beginning over the weekend. In the recent past, the health system was using the limited dosages it was receiving to inoculate its health care workers, then high risk patients who were over age 75. Late last week, those who were signed up for its automated notification system learned they could make appointments for Saturday. Ric McGinnis/The News

After wintry weather conditions across the country prompted abrupt cancellation of COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Stanislaus County late last week, now comes word that the Moderna vaccine will be provided in Oakdale later this week.

According to the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency, the first dose only of Moderna will be available on Friday, Feb. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gladys L. Lemmons Senior Center, 450 E. A St., Oakdale.

The second dose only of Moderna was provided to those eligible on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the same site.

County officials said the vaccine clinics are open to those in Phase 1A – healthcare workers and long-term care residents – as well as those in Phase 1B, including: Individuals 65 and older; individuals aged 50 and older in sectors including agriculture and food, education and child care, and emergency services.

For more information about eligibility check the ‘Sector Index’ at https://covid19.ca.gov/essential-workforce

Vaccination screening forms are provided at the clinics but can also be downloaded in advance from the HSA website at schsa.org.

In addition to the Oakdale location for the first dose only on Friday, Modesto Centre Plaza will be open at 1000 L St., Modesto, for first dose only of Moderna on Thursday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Weather, vaccine supply and other factors can impact the ongoing clinics; information is updated on the county’s website every Friday or as the vaccine availability changes.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were 77,310 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine allotted to Stanislaus County, with 36,135 doses allocated to healthcare providers and 41,175 doses allocated to Public Health. Those numbers do not include vaccines provided directly to residents and staff of long term care facilities, provided through a federal program, and some directly to hospitals.

Total cases, according to the Stanislaus County COVID dashboard, were at 55,347 as of Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 23 with 931 deaths attributed to the pandemic. Nationwide, more than 500,000 deaths have been reported due to COVID since the pandemic began last year.
