The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 30 through Monday, Feb. 5. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.



Battalion 2: 8 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to Claus and Patterson for a vehicle accident. No injuries, vehicles were secured, and fluid controlled.

Battalion 5: Crews performed weekly apparatus maintenance.

Engine 27 performed hose stretching and pumping evolutions.



Battalion 2: 8:57 a.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Truck 5, and BC5 responded to a smell of electrical burning inside the residence. Engine 26 worked with occupants to secure power and isolate the source. No injuries reported.

3:08 p.m. – Engine 23, Engine 22, BC2 responded to what totaled to be 41 communication poles down on Highway 132 between Albers and Wellsford. MST units with our partner agencies CHP/ Caltrans secured the scene through the highway remained closed.

Battalion 5: Crews responded to wind related calls through the afternoon and evening.

Battalion 5 assisted with resources and station coverage in Modesto due to high call volume.

Crews monitored some of the local creeks and rivers in the eastern part of the county for local flooding.



Battalion 2: All companies participated in apparatus and station maintenance.

11:44 a.m. – Engine 23/Water Tender 23, E22 and BC2 responded with Hughson Fire to the 2500 block of Geer Road for a commercial building on fire. On arrival several metal sheds were on fire with more as exposures. Hughson E39 arrived first, pulled a line and got a quick knock down, E23/WT23 pulled an additional line and completed the extinguishment. Numerous other resources arrived and assisted with overhaul.

Battalion 5: 3:12 a.m. – Engine 28 to a medical aid for seizures. Upon arrival, firefighters found the patient in cardiac arrest. ALS care was immediately administered by MFD medics, pit crew CPR was initiated, and the Lucas Device attached. After eight minutes of care, ROSC was obtained. The patient was packaged and transported.

Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engine 27, Engine 28, and Battalion 5 trained on hose evolutions and fire attack.



Battalion 2: All companies completed apparatus inspections.

Station 26 performed engine company level business inspections.

11:56 p.m. – Engine 24, E23, 4456 and BC2 responded to an iPhone that alerted 911 the owner was in an accident at La Grange Dam Road and Highway 132. After all units checked the area, and dispatch attempted to call the cell which went to voice mail, everyone was unable to locate and cleared. Approximately 10 minutes later an accident was called in on J59 at the county line. On arrival a single vehicle rollover was found, with two ejections, one subject was deceased on scene and one subject was an immediate. The immediate patient was transported by ground ambulance with a fire rider.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Companies completed station maintenance.

Congratulations to newly promoted Engineer/Paramedic Josh Bjorge. He is assigned to Engine 28/B Shift. Chief Wise presented Eng/Medic Bjorge his badge.

Congratulations to Firefighter Ryley McHenry for passing his 10-month Probationary test.

Engine 28 trained on ALS equipment set up with the new Engineer/Paramedic assigned to E28/B Shift.

5:27 p.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26, Quint 18 and Battalion 5 responded to Country Manor in Riverbank for a potential structure fire. Crews arrived on scene to find burnt food on the stove with no extension into the home. Crews remained on scene to ventilate the structure.



3:05 a.m. – Modesto Engine 9, Truck 5, and BC5 responded to a rescue at Claus Road and Santa Fe Avenue for a vehicle into a ditch that was full of water. Engine 9 arrived on-scene and confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied, and the responding balance was cancelled.

Battalion 5: 1:30 p.m. – The Modesto Fire Department Monthly Briefing was held.

5:13 p.m. – Modesto Engine 7, Stanislaus Engine 26, Modesto Truck 5, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident at Oakdale Road and Claribel Road. Engine 7 arrived on-scene and confirmed that the involved parties had minor injuries sustained and cancelled the responding balance.

7:05 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Truck 5, and BC5 responded to a natural gas leak inside a residence in the 1000 block of East E Street in the City of Oakdale. Engine 27 arrived on-scene and checked the residence with the four-gas monitor; there was no smell of natural gas or any hazardous condition found. PG&E was requested just for precaution.



Battalion 2: Firefighter Etcheverry passed his 10-month test.

2:40 a.m. – Engine 23 responded to an unknown fire at Dusty Lane/Albers Road. They discovered and extinguished a vehicle fire.

Battalion 5: 8:48 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to the 10600 block of Rio Sombra Drive for a vehicle accident. Engine 28 arrived on-scene and located a vehicle that had traveled off Highway 108 down an embankment. Engine 28 and Engine 27 assisted the solo occupant of the vehicle with minor injuries up the embankment.



Battalion 2: Engine 22 Firefighter Daniel Perales was successful in completing his ten-month probationary testing.

1:30 p.m. – Engine 24 and Waterford Public Works teamed up to rescue a cat from an underground vault.

Battalion 5: Crews prepared Fire Station 30 for the upcoming rain by cleaning gutters and down spouts.

Engine 27 performed a pre-fire walkthrough of River Paradise Mobile Estates.
