The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 21 through Monday, Jan. 27. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JAN. 27
MCI training was performed by the on-duty Battalions along with Medic 1 and Quint 22’s crew at their station.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews completed target hazard familiarization in their respective FMAs.
Battalion 5: Crews performed Monday apparatus checks and weekly station yard maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
SUNDAY, JAN. 26
Battalion 2: Crews trained in their first due areas.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 28 trained on low angle rope rescue.
9:01 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Langworth and Rice for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene with one vehicle into a fence. One patient was treated for minor injuries.
6:19 p.m. – Engine 27, Brush 28 and Battalion 5 to Warnerville and Stearns for a vegetation fire. Crews arrived on scene with a large pile of wood and trash on fire in a field. Firefighters extinguished the fire without incident. APC was notified.
SATURDAY, JAN. 25
The truck and quint apparatus conducted quarterly truck training.
E9 assisted with the MFD Fire explorer training at the RFTC.
Battalion 2: Companies participated in Saturday drills.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews completed company level training, including hose line deployment and ground ladders.
Engine 28 trained on MDC use and on scene reports.
12:16 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to Church Street for a CO (carbon monoxide) alarm with symptoms. Crews arrived on scene to find the home evacuated and the residents complaining of headaches. Oak Valley medics checked the residents as firefighters used monitors to check the home. No hazardous condition was detected, and a faulty CO detector was found.
FRIDAY, JAN. 24
OES HM 41 completed demobilization from the Palisades Incident and returned to Modesto.
Battalion 2: Crews completed weekly checks on the Type three and six apparatus at their stations.
Engine 26 and the Prevention Division attended a career fair at Riverbank High School.
The new Type 1 engine is in production at Hi-Tech in Oakdale. They have started with the electrical wiring and the pump panels.
4:28 p.m. – Engine 26 was dispatched to a vehicle fire on McHenry Avenue near the bridge over the Stanislaus River. Crews arrived on scene to find an abandoned pickup truck on fire. The fire was extinguished, and law enforcement and the fire investigator were called to the scene.
Battalion 5: 4:42 a.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26 and BC5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Claribel Road near Litt Road. Engine 7 arrived on scene and found a truck that left the roadway and traveled into an orchard. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
THURSDAY, JAN. 23
Haz Mat 41 is assigned to the Haz Mat Group in Branch 1 on the Palisades Incident. Crews are assessing known radiation sites and will be the Decon team this operational shift.
Battalion 2: Stanislaus County Fire Warden’s Office completed programming updates to the battalion’s mobile and portable radios.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Companies conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
1:42 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident involving two cars on River Road just west of Valley Home Road. Crews got on scene and found there were no injuries to either driver.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 22
HM41 is assigned to the Hazmat Group in Branch I in the Topanga Beach area. Currently assigned a mapping mission; to identify, map, and flag hazardous materials for public repopulation. In their prior shift on Jan. 21, they checked approximately 400 homes.
Battalion 2: Chiefs Wise, Avila, and Bray met with Station 26’s crew and discussed the current events of MST and a general question-and-answer period. We appreciate the Chiefs taking time each week to visit the stations.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Companies rotated through quarterly EMS training at Station 22.
Engine 27 and Engine 28 trained on rope rescue systems and patient packaging in the Stokes basket.
Engine 27, Battalion 5 and MFD Chiefs attended the Oakdale Mayor’s State of the City Adress held at the Gene Bianchi Center in Oakdale.
4:13 p.m. – Engine 27 responded to stage per law enforcement for a subject who barricaded himself inside his home after being bitten by a K9. Once cleared in by sheriffs, Engine 27 assisted Oak Valley with assessing the patient and was then released.
TUESDAY, JAN. 21
HM41 is assigned to the Hazmat Group in Branch I with HM42 and HM12 working in the Topanga Beach area. Currently their job is to identify and mark hazardous materials and lithium-ion batteries. They’re also building a manifold for decontamination operations.
Strike Team 4200C returned home today from the Eaton Fire in the Pasadena area after 14 days.
MST Companies rotated through Station 22 for the First Quarter EMS Training that focused on Paramedic and EMT skills. Skills included Epinephrine, CPAP, IO, and Narcan administration.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews attended quarterly EMS training.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Companies rotated through quarterly EMS training at Station 22.
6:34 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Quint 22, and Battalion 5 responded for a gas leak inside of a structure in the 100 block of Davitt Avenue. Engine 28 arrived on scene to a single-story residence with the homeowners outside. Engine 28 checked the structure and located the gas leak. The gas leak was secured, and Engine 28 remained on scene for PG&E. The remainder of the response was cancelled.
