The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Monday, Jan. 1. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JAN. 1
Battalion 2: 4:23 a.m. – Engines 23, 24, and CalFire Engine 4456 responded to a solo vehicle accident in the 23000 block of Lake Road. E24 arrived after Oak Valley Ambulance to find an overturned vehicle in a field. Two patients were located outside of the vehicle and declared deceased; two additional patients were transported to hospitals with injuries.
Battalions 2 and 4 worked on communications and radio purchasing.
Training was conducted at the station level.
Mileage for all apparatus was sent to fleet.
Battalion 5: Crews completed Monday Apparatus Checks and first of the month duties.
Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 conducted a station cleanup project at Fire Station 28 that involved cleaning out a storage shed and storage container.
SUNDAY, DEC. 31
Battalion 5: Crews completed end of the year training and apparatus checks.
4:16 p.m. – Stanislaus Engine 26, Modesto Engine 27, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Eleanor Avenue and Patterson Road. Engine 26 arrived on scene with one motorcyclist down after hitting a K-rail. The motorcyclist was an immediate patient and was transported to a local hospital.
SATURDAY, DEC. 30
Battalion 2: Companies performed maintenance on the app bay floors as well as the apparatus.
Training was conducted at the company level, E22 worked on hose and ladder skills.
8:33 a.m. – Engine 24, E23 and BC2 responded to the report of a vehicle collision at D Street and Main Street in Waterford. On arrival E24 reported one vehicle vs. two parked cars. E24 was able to handle.
Battalion 5: Crews completed end of the year assignments and reports.
Engine 27 conducted pre-fire planning and hose evolutions at challenging access residences in Oakdale.
FRIDAY, DEC. 29
Battalion 2: Companies completed Engine and Station Maintenance.
Battalion 5: Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Modesto Engine 27 and Engine 28 conducted training focused on garage fires and hoseline placement in Engine 27’s FMA.
THURSDAY, DEC. 28
Deputy Chief Nicasio and Captain Hauselmann were presented with the Fire Chief’s challenge coin recognizing their efforts in assisting the SWAT team in the City of Stockton during a police action.
Battalion 2: Engine 24 responded to the report of a vehicle fire on Tim Bell Road. On arrival a fully involved vehicle was found and extinguished. There was no one around the vehicle at the time of the call.
Battalion 5: Crews conducted FMA training that focused on building construction.
Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 27
Crews with the vegetation management program continued to build fire breaks to limit the vegetation fires in the TRRP area.
Battalion 2: Engine 22, Quint 18, and Squad 11 trained on Pick-N-Pull for the upcoming testing.
Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews completed company level training within their FMA.
TUESDAY, DEC. 26
Battalion 2: 11:40 a.m. – MST units responded to 600 Garner Road, Frito Lay, for a fire alarm sounding. Engine 22 arrived on scene and located a fire on the second floor burning in an electrical panel. E22 upgraded the incident to a working commercial fire bringing two Battalion Chiefs, one Truck, one Quint, Medic 1, and four additional Engines to assist. Crews contained the fire to the panel and connected computer. No extension to the rest of the building. Smoke from the fire was removed with fans and the air handling unit in the plant. The problem area was isolated by fire crews and staff on site allowing the plant to resume operations in the unaffected areas.
