The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 16 through Monday, Dec. 22. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, DEC. 22
Battalion 2: Crews rotated through the high-rise drill at the RFTC.
All stations completed weekly apparatus checks on their first out apparatus.
Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews completed weekly station maintenance.
Companies rotated through high-rise training at the RFTC.
SUNDAY, DEC. 21
Battalion 2: Crews rotated through the high-rise drill at the RFTC.
Battalion 5: Daily equipment checks were performed.
Companies attended annual high-rise drill at the RFTC.
Battalion 5 and Engine 28 reviewed Captains task book
8:12 a.m. – Engine 7, 27, Truck 5 and BC5 responded to Riverbank for smoke coming from an electrical outlet. When Engine 7 arrived they found an electrical issue that they were able to mitigate. All other units cancelled.
11:04 a.m. – Engine 28, 7, 9, Quint 22, Quint 18, and BC5 responded to an alarm sounding at Oak Valley Hospital. On scene Engine 28 found that the alarm was caused by an exterior door that had been opened and triggered the alarm. All units cancelled.
SATURDAY, DEC. 20
MST personnel trained on large area search techniques while field testing new rope search equipment.
Battalion 2: 6:31 p.m. – Grass 23, Water Tender 23, and BC2 responded to a grass fire on Albers Road north of Dusty Lane. The incident was upgraded to a hay fire bringing Engine and Water Tender 21 and 27, Engine 9, Engine 24, and BC5. Engine 33 covered Waterford. Over 400 tons of hay in big bales were burning. Crews worked to hold the fire in check while three loaders removed as much unburned hay as possible. Companies remained on scene staffing hose lines throughout the night as this dairy had other feed nearby. The fire was determined controlled at 5 a.m. and turned over to the property owner. Fire crews will check the fire several times tomorrow.

E29 attended a parade and tree lighting ceremony.
FRIDAY, DEC. 19
Engineer Dominic DeSantis completed his retirement flag ceremony at Fire Station 5. Dominic served over 20 years with the City of Modesto, and we wish he well in his retirement.
Battalion 2: Engine 21, Engine 23, Engine 24 and BC2 trained on fire officer development at Fire Station 24.
THURSDAY, DEC. 18
Battalion 2: Crews completed their daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Oakdale crews continue to service hydrants in their FMA and finish their year-end work.
11 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, and Battalion 5 responded to a report of a motorcyclist down on Albers Road and Valk. Engine 28 arrived on scene with Oak Valley Ambulance and treated one patient with minor injuries. The remainder of the response was cancelled. Engine 28 assisted CHP with traffic control until the road could be opened.
Engine 28 and Engine 29 trained on hose stretches and estimations for large residential structures.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 17
Battalion 2: Crews completed their daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 26 participated in a reading event at California Avenue Elementary School in Riverbank.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed mandated Target Solution assignments.
Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Oakdale crews took advantage of the good weather and serviced hydrants in their FMA.
5:30 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, and Battalion 5 responded to the report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian in the 7000 block of River Road in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene and provided care for one patient with minor injuries.
TUESDAY, DEC. 16
Congratulations to Megan Lee on being awarded the City of Modesto budgeter of the year for her exceptional work during the budget process this fiscal year.
MST truck companies trained on large area search tactics and strategies.
Battalion 2: 9:04 a.m. – Engine 26, Battalion 5 and OVHD Medics to Arrowwood Drive for an EMSCPR call. First arriving crews found the patient in cardiac arrest. Firefighter/Medics began ALS care, pit crew CPR and placed the Lucas Device on the patient. After 25 minutes of ALS care with no change, the patient was unfortunately declared deceased. Crews remained on scene for an additional 45 minutes assisting the family
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 27 and Engine 28 trained on crew expectations and available HR resources.
Crews worked on completing annual online training.
2:02 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 26, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 to Townhill Avenue for a potential structure fire, smell of natural gas in the residence. Crews arrived on scene to a notable smell of gas in the home. Crews were able to find the source of the issue, a malfunctioning oven. They secured the gas to the stove and ventilated the structure.
