Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 12-31-25

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 29. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, DEC. 29

Captain Derek Nichols’ family and friends gathered at Station 2 to celebrate his many decades of service to our communities as he raised the station flag for the final time as a Modesto firefighter. We thank you for your kind heart and leadership throughout the years. Congratulations on your retirement.

Battalion 2: 5:10 p.m. – Engine 26 was dispatched to rendezvous with Oak Valley Ambulance, which was transporting a patient who had experienced cardiac arrest en route to the hospital. Engine 26 met the ambulance at the intersection of Claus Road and Highway 108. The firefighter/paramedic assisted with patient transport to the hospital, where the patient subsequently regained pulses.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 Companies performed weekly maintenance on apparatus and equipment.

3:47 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and Battalion 5 responded to the intersection of Patterson Road and Crane Road in Oakdale for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. E27 arrived and found three vehicles involved in a traffic collision. Three patients were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. CHP investigating.

 

SUNDAY, DEC. 28

Battalion 2: 7:27 p.m. – Engines 23, 24, and Battalion 2 responded to a vehicle accident at Oakdale-Waterford Highway and Ellenwood Road. Engine 24 arrived first and reported one vehicle with one person pinned inside. Crews used the Jaws of Life to extricate the patient in 11 minutes from dispatch. He was transported by Oak Valley Ambulance with moderate injuries to a local hospital. CHP is investigating the accident.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.

Engine 29 conducted company level training.

BC5 and Engine 28 conducted Captain preparation training.

9:17 a.m. – Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a medical aid for a subject unresponsive. Engine 28 arrived to find the patient in full arrest and began initial BLS patient care. The patient was pronounced deceased on scene after 20 minutes of resuscitative efforts.

 

SATURDAY, DEC. 27

MST units trained on rural water supply operations.

Battalion 2: 7 p.m. – Engines 23, 24, Quint 22, and Battalion 2 responded for a vehicle accident at the intersection of Milnes Road and Bentley Road. E23 was the first to arrive and found one person who had self-extricated. The balance of the response was canceled. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.

Battalion 5: Engine 29 and Engine 9 worked on pumping evolutions for their company level Saturday drills.

5:09 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27, Quint 22 and BC5 were dispatched to a laundromat on Atchison Street in Riverbank for reports of the building filling with smoke. On arrival E26 had heavy smoke and a fire in the back of the business. The call was upgraded to a commercial working structure fire. Crews then identified a dryer with a fire inside of it. The fire was knocked down quickly and crews kept it from extending out of the dryer.

 

FRIDAY, DEC. 26

Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies worked on station and apparatus maintenance and getting caught up on end of the year reports and projects.

Battalion 5: Engine 28 and Engine 27 returned to the previous day’s fire on Victory Avenue to extinguish hot spots due to inaccessibility in a large basement. Crews also cut open a safe for the investigators and owner of the property.

 

THURSDAY, DEC. 25

Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies spent the day enjoying Christmas with visits from family and friends to the firehouse.

1:34 p.m. – MST crews responded to a working structure fire in the 2700 block of Topeka Street in the City of Riverbank for a reported kitchen fire in the apartment. Engine 26 arrived first, finding a fire contained in the oven. Engine 26 and Engine 7 handled the incident canceling the balance.

Battalion 5: 7:33 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 26, Engine 23, Engine 7, Quint 22, Escalon Fire, BC2 and BC5 were dispatched to reports of a working structure fire on Victory Avenue in Oakdale near the county line Christmas morning. Engine 28 arrived on scene and found a large house well involved with fire. Crews initiated a defensive attack and protected the house next door. The fire was contained in an hour. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was evaluated at the scene and returned to work on the fireground. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

7:48 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a two-vehicle accident on Patterson and Crane Road. There were no injuries, and CHP was on scene to conduct their investigation.

 

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 24

Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.

Crews completed mandated Target Solution assignments, conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Battalion 5 Crews finished up their year-end work.

6:58 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to the report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian at Knox and Sierra Road. Engine 28 arrived on scene to one vehicle into the side of a train and checked for injuries. Crews assisted with patient care on one patient with minor injuries.

12:04 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Q22 and Battalion 5 responded to a potential structure fire in the 1200 block of East A Street in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene to a single-story residence with light smoke from the front door. Engine 28 investigated further and found a fire in the oven that was contained. Crews assisted with removing smoke from the residence and making sure there was no extension into the wall space.

4:04 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22, Battalion 5 and Battalion 2 responded to a potential structure fire in the 100 block of Magnolia Street in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene to find smoke and fire from the chimney. After extinguishing the chimney fire, personnel checked the attic space for extension and cleaned up the living room prior clearing the scene.

 

TUESDAY, DEC. 23

Battalion 2: 6:33 a.m. – Denair Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire involving a large chicken barn. Units from Merced and Stanislaus County assisted Denair, including several teams from Battalions Two, Three, and Four. All MST units were released after approximately six hours. Crews successfully protected an adjacent large chicken barn, preserving several thousand chickens.

Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments, conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Firefighter Luke Mensonides completed the finishing touches on a custom table for Station 27 in Oakdale. The table is made from a solid walnut slab with the Oakdale Cowboy Capital Fire Logo.

12:20 a.m. – Engines 7, 9, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, Quint 22, Water Tenders 21, 23, Battalions 1 and 5 along with Hughson WT39 responded to the report of a residential working structure fire in the 4000 block of McGee Road in Station 9’s FMA. The first arriving unit reported a large silage pile on fire that was blowing embers downwind toward neighboring houses. Crews, with the assistance of a front loader, were able to knock down the fire and prevent further fire spread. Due to extremely high winds during the incident, engine companies were placed at the neighboring homes for structure protection.
