The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Feb. 10 through Monday, Feb. 16. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, FEB. 16

SUNDAY, FEB. 15
Battalion 2: Boats 26, 24, and 28 participated in Boat Operator Training at Modesto Reservoir.
1:28 p.m. – Engine 24, Engine 23, Battalion 2, and Cal Fire responded to a reported vehicle accident at La Grange Off Road Park. E24 arrived on scene and found a single patient who had been involved in a side by side roll over. Engine 24 and Cal Fire were able to handle and the patient was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments, and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
3:07 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to Sonora Road and Orange Blossom for an injury accident. Engine 29 arrived on scene on Sonora Road to a motorcycle rider down in the roadway with major injuries. Engine 29 along with Engine 28 and Oak Valley Ambulance provided ALS care on scene until the air ambulance arrived. The patient was transported to Memorial Medical Center for further care.
SATURDAY, FEB. 14
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed weekly station maintenance and took part in company level drill day training throughout Battalion 5.
3:57 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to the intersection of Victory Avenue and Lone Tree Road in Valley Home for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Engine 28 arrived and found a solo vehicle into a fence, and one occupant with minor injuries. The patient self-transported to a local hospital, CHP is investigating.
FRIDAY, FEB. 13
Battalion 2: 12:27 p.m. – Engine 21, Quint 22, Engine 9 and BC2 responded to a reported gas leak with a reported burn patient. Engine 21 arrived on scene and found the gas leak had been secured prior to arrival. E21 found a patient with significant burns to the face and arms. The patient was flown by Cal Star 12 to UC Davis for further treatment.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed mandated web-based training.
THURSDAY, FEB. 12
Firefighter Paramedic Herring and Firefighter Smith provided Quarterly EMS training at Fire Station 22. The topics were a refresher on administering NARCAN, Epinephrine and fitting CPAP masks on patients.
The MST firefighter academy continued training at Fire Station 17.
Battalion 2: 7:04 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to Brie Court in Riverbank for a vehicle into a house. The call was upgraded to technical rescue to confirm building stability and citizen safety.
Battalion 2 provided fire extinguisher training for Foster Farms employees.
Crews completed fire station exterior maintenance around the battalion.
Battalion 5: Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22 and BC5 put on a demonstration for OHS students to show the dangers of drinking and driving. The “Every 15 Minutes” program is run at several high schools every year in the hopes of raising awareness and hopefully deter students from getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking.
Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 23, and Engine 26 trained on rural water supply in Oakdale. This training simulates the need to create a consistent water supply in the many areas of Battalion 5’s territory where there are no fire hydrants. Crews utilize drop tanks and a water tender shuttle operation to maintain a constant water supply.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 11
The MST firefighter academy continued with training evolutions at Fire Station 17. The drills focused on week two of Engine Company operations.
Crews attended Quarterly EMS training provided by the EMS Division.
Battalion 2: Crews completed weekly checks on water tenders and water rescues.
Battalion 5: 6:09 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to a solo vehicle accident with a fire on Highway 108 near Orange Blossom Road. Crews arrived to find the car crashed off the roadway and the engine compartment on fire. The driver was uninjured, and Engine 28 extinguished the fire.
TUESDAY, FEB. 10
Battalion 2: Station and apparatus maintenance was completed.
Crews completed Vector solutions assignments.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed mandated Target Solution assignments.
Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
BC5 met with the PPE committee to discuss uniform and PPE standards.
BC5 conducted company expectations with one of our newly promoted captains.
