The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, March 10 through Monday, March 16. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, MARCH 16
Battalion 2: 7:17 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to the 2100 block of Candlewood Place for a subject experiencing difficulty breathing. Upon arrival, they found bystanders performing CPR. E26 initiated ALS care, and after 20 minutes, they obtained ROSC (Return Of Spontaneous Circulation) and assisted OVA with transport to a local hospital.
Engines 21 and 26 trained on drafting as part of the engineer task book sign-offs.
Firefighter Tamburrino is attending the “First in Ops” Class at the Fresno Training Symposium. The Symposium is put on by Cal-Chiefs and is a great place for firefighters of all ranks, from firefighter to fire chief, to learn new skills and network with other firefighters throughout the state.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance, along with completing mandated on-line training.
BC5 met with E7 and E9 to review command meeting notes.
E28 attended the Oakdale High School Fire Class and reviewed EMS equipment.
SUNDAY, MARCH 15
Crews met to conduct training prep for the upcoming Captains promotional exam.
Battalion 2: 12:13 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to the 3800 block of Sierra Street for a subject who was altered. Upon arrival, they found bystanders performing CPR. E26 initiated ALS care, and after 15 minutes, they obtained ROSC and assisted OVA with transport to a local hospital.
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.
Crews completed mandated on-line training.
A-Shift Captain’s candidates reviewed strategy and tactics for residential and commercial fire responses in preparation for the upcoming promotional exam.
8:39 p.m. – Engine 27, E28, Q22, and BC5 responded to the 1300 block of Grand Oak Way in Oakdale for a report of a gas leak inside a residence. E28 arrived and found a moderate odor consistent with natural gas in the kitchen. E28 used a fan to ventilate the residence and remained on scene for PG&E. No injuries reported.
SATURDAY, MARCH 14
Battalion 2: Saturday drills took place across the battalion on a variety of disciplines.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments, and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 28 and Battalion 5 attended the opening day ceremonies for Oakdale Baseball and Softball Association. The association provides organized baseball and softball for roughly 900 kids in the Oakdale Community.
Engine 29 trained on mobile Stokes basket operations.
3 a.m. (Sunday) – Engine 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to the report of a vegetation fire on Valley Home Road in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene to find a vegetation fire on the river bottom behind River Oak Grace Church. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and limit fire spread. Crews remained on scene for an hour conducting mop up.
FRIDAY, MARCH 13
The MST new hire academy trained on vehicle extrication techniques.
Battalion 5: Crews completed company level training.
Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 27 participated in a career day at Magnolia Elementary School.
THURSDAY, MARCH 12
Battalion 2: E26’s crew trained on pediatric EMS skills and interventions.
Captain Zurilgen and Captain Anderson assisted the training division with teaching the 2026 new hire academy in auto extrication skills at the Turlock Fire Training grounds using a variety of vehicle extrication equipment and techniques.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments, and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Battalion 5 and Chief Bray attended the Oakdale Fire Protection District Board Meeting in Knights Ferry.
E-28 conducted vehicle extrication training. Challenges included vehicle construction, stabilization, and tool control and positioning for patient access and removal. A huge thank you to Oakdale Auto Recyclers for donating the SUV — Support from local businesses like this helps make hands-on training possible and keeps our firefighters prepared to respond to vehicle accidents throughout the Oakdale, Valley Home, and Knights Ferry area.
E-28 conducted boat operator training at Woodward Reservoir, including area familiarization with park staff, review of launch sites, and victim removal from the water in preparation for the upcoming busy season on Stanislaus County waterways.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11
Battalion 2: Engine 26 along with the Riverbank Police Services and members of the Riverbank City Council attended the “Coffee with a Cop” event at Target in Riverbank.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Crews completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
The crew on Engine 29 performed weekly apparatus and station maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.
Engine 29 conducted engineer pump training to prepare for the upcoming promotional exam.
TUESDAY, MARCH 10
HazMat Team members conducted monthly training on propane flaring operations.
Battalion 2: 8:52 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to a reported motor vehicle accident involving an ambulance at the intersection of Claus Road and Claribel Road. E26 arrived on scene and found a pickup truck had collided with an Oak Valley ambulance. The ambulance had been responding code 3 to Doctors Medical Center with a patient on board. An additional Oak Valley ambulance was requested to the scene and upon arrival, assumed patient care of the patient being transported. No other involved parties were transported.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.
