Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 4-16-25

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 8 through Monday, April 14. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, APRIL 14

Training Division at Station 17 received the first of the c-containers for the new tower project.

Captain Cummings began a six-week course in training on Community Paramedicine.

Battalion 2: Grass 26 walked trails along the river bottom to advise the local unhoused population that our crews will be in the area, training on Saturday.

Battalion 5: Painting began on Fire Station 28.

With increased flows on the Stanislaus River, Battalion 5 companies were able to train on boat operations.

10:40 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 26 and Battalion 5 dispatched to Lon Dale and Valley Home Road for a vehicle accident with pin in. Crews arrived on scene to find a single vehicle into a pole with the driver still inside. Firefighters were able to access the vehicle and remove the driver who was uninjured. PG&E was requested to repair the sheared pole.

 

SUNDAY, APRIL 13

Battalions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and Medic 1 trained on active shooter command and control.

Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Battalion 5 attended the Monthly BC training focusing on the Incident Command System and responding to Criminal Incidents.

Engine 27, Engine 28 and Engine 29 trained on low angle rescue.

10:30 a.m. – Engine 27 dispatched to Crane Road and West F Street for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene with two vehicles involved and the roadway partially blocked. One patient was treated and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. OPD is investigating the accident.

 

SATURDAY, APRIL 12

Battalion 2: Engine 21 conducted hose evolutions for their Saturday drill, while Engine 26 launched their boat for some time on the river.

Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 trained in their respective Fire Management Areas on various skills.

Crews in Battalion 5 completed their Saturday station maintenance and got caught up on their Target Safety solution assignments.

Engine 27, Engine 28 and BC5 were called to the Oakdale Rodeo for two minor medical aid calls and were able to get a behind the chutes tour of the rodeo. Thank you to the Oakdale Saddle Club for the access.

 

FRIDAY, APRIL 11

Battalion 2: Crews completed station and apparatus maintenance.

3:11 p.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26, Truck 1 and BC5 were dispatched to an EMS call at the new Costco parking lot in Riverbank. Engine 7 arrived on scene and found a construction worker with a penetrating injury. The patient had fallen off a scaffolding and was impaled through his back and out of the chest with a three-foot piece of rebar and was conscious and alert. Truck 1 arrived on scene and performed the rescue/extrication by accessing a small area under the patient and using a small handheld circular to cut the rebar and free the patient. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Battalion 5: 8:56 a.m. – Engine 29, Engine 28 and BC5 were dispatched to an accident on Highway 4 just east of Dunton Road. The driver lost control and left the roadway and rolled several times in a field. The driver was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

 

THURSDAY, APRIL 10

The MST Academy conducted Boat and Swift Water Rescue training in Knights Ferry.

Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Crews completed weekly yard maintenance at their stations.

6:09 p.m. – Engine 23, Water Rescue 24, and Battalion 2 responded to Modesto Reservoir for three people on an island who were screaming. Air 101, from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, located three people on an island and guided Water Rescue 24 to their location. The three stranded juveniles were not injured; they just needed assistance getting off the island. Boat 24 ferried them back to safe ground.

8:09 p.m. – Engine 9, Engine 26, and Battalion 2 responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at Terminal Avenue and Claribel Road in Riverbank. Engine 26 arrived on scene and found a two-vehicle accident in the intersection. This was a non-injury accident. Incoming units were cancelled.

Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance along with company level training in their respective FMA’s.

7:30 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to an injury accident on Highway 108 at Crickets Corner. Engine 29 arrived on scene to find one vehicle that had rolled off the roadway and checked for injuries. One patient with minor injuries was treated at the scene by Engine 29. Patient care was transferred to Oak Valley and all fire units were released.

 

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9

Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks, station maintenance and company level training in their respective FMA’s.

Engine 29’s crew performed station and yard maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.

No time listed – Engine 28, Grass 29, and Battalion 5 responded to Rodden Road and Oak View for the report of a vegetation fire. Engine 28 arrived on scene to approximately an eighth of an acre on fire in the grass with no threat to any structures. Engine 28 quickly extinguished the fire limiting the further spread. They remained on scene for approximately an hour for mop up.

No time listed – Engine 29, Engine 24, Water Tender 23, and BC 5 responded to the 16000 block of Highway 108/120 for the report of a hay fire. Engine 29 arrived on scene to approximately 15 tons of hay on fire in the middle of a field. Crews placed a line around the fire to negate any fire spread and monitored throughout the day.

 

TUESDAY, APRIL 8

Chief Wise presented B/C Bairos with his 20 years of service certificate.

The remodel of the portable classroom at the RFTC continues to make progress.

Modesto firefighters attended trench rescue training in Southern California.

The MST academy was trained on swiftwater rescue operations in Knights Ferry. Recruits were taught water rescue techniques and rescue swimmer operations.

Battalion 2: Grass 26 preplanned the river bottom area of Highway 108 and Mesa Drive. The area has limited access and several homeless camps. There are approximately 16 to 20 people living in this area of the river bottom.

2:55 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a vehicle accident at the Eighth Street and Dakota Avenue intersection. There were two vehicles involved, with one minor injury. One of the vehicles struck and sheared off a hydrant. E26 was able to quickly shut off the water to the hydrant and limit the flooding to homes in the area.

Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Battalion 5 attended the County Communications Advisory Committee meeting.

The academy class used Station 28’s classroom and its facility to train on water rescue techniques before heading to Turlock Lake.
