The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, May 11 through Monday, May 17. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, MAY 17

SUNDAY, MAY 16
Truck 1 trained on Water Rescue 28 along the Stanislaus River.
3:34 p.m. – Modesto Fire Department responded with Salida Fire Department to a vegetation fire burning near the 600 Block of Charity Way in North Modesto. Crews were able to contain the fire to less than nine acres.
SATURDAY, MAY 15
Hose testing was completed for a reserve engine.
Crews met at Station 5 for probationary firefighter training.
Squad 11, Engine 2, Engine 7, Battalion Chief 5 and Battalion Chief 1 conducted a MCI exercise.
2:52 p.m. – Modesto, Stanislaus and Escalon units responded to a water rescue on the Stanislaus River at Jacob Myers Park. Two adults were stranded in the tree line. Boat 26 retrieved the uninjured parties.
FRIDAY, MAY 14
1:32 p.m. – MCS Crews were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire in the area of the off road park in LaGrange. Cal Fire arrived on scene and confirmed the location and requested the response continue. The fire was contained to just under 100 acres. Crews were on scene for approximately four hours assisting Cal Fire with mopping up hotspots.
THURSDAY, MAY 13
11:19 a.m. – Fire crews responded to a vegetation fire on Schell Road in the town of Knights Ferry. Crews worked alongside Cal Fire to contain the three- to four-acre fire that was threatening nearby structures.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 12
1:05 a.m. – Modesto Battalion 5 responded to Del Rio to assist Salida Fire Department with searching for two people using a UAV. The group was stranded on the shore of the Stanislaus River near the 7400 block of River Nines Drive. One of the two rafts they were going down the river on was punctured. Due to the density of the vegetation along the river they were unable to make their way up the shore. Ripon Fire Department launched a boat at the McHenry Recreation Area and was able to travel down river to pick the group up and return them to safety.
5:25 a.m. – Modesto Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 108 east of Lancaster Road near Oakdale. The accident involved a jack knifed semi and a passenger vehicle with one occupant suffering from moderate injuries trapped in the vehicle. Crews removed the occupant then transferred them to a medical helicopter to be flown to a local hospital. The other driver denied injuries. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
TUESDAY, MAY 11
The Engineer Academy training took place at the RFTC.
8:55 a.m. – Modesto Fire Department responded with Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District to a working structure (garage) fire on the 5000 block of Terminal Avenue near Riverbank. The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of the first arriving unit. Crews were on scene for approximately 90 minutes overhauling the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The Stanislaus County FIU is investigating the origin and cause.
3:48 p.m. – Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District responded to the 400 block of Shalako Drive in Oakdale for a fence fire. The fire damage was limited to the fence separating adjoining properties and minor damage to building trim. The Stanislaus County FIU is investigating.
10:51 p.m. – Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District responded to the 300 block of Peachcrest Court in Oakdale for a garage fire. The first unit on scene was able to put a large hose line in place to knock down the main fire. A second hose line was used to control the spread of fire to the interior. The fire was extinguished, with the majority of the fire damage contained to the attached garage. The interior of the home sustained significant smoke damage. Two adults were displaced by the fire and received assistance from the Red Cross and the California Fire Foundation Save Program. The Stanislaus County FIU is determining the origin and cause of the fire.
