Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 7-13-22

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 5 through Monday, July 11. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JULY 11

Members of the Hazardous Materials Team trained on chemical identification and hazard assessments utilizing various computer programs.

Personnel attended training on Incident Management Team Operations.

Firefighter Logan Heimeyer raised his flag as part of the ongoing tradition on his first shift with Modesto Fire Department.

3:36 p.m. – MST units responded to assist CalFire in the 21000 block of Yosemite Boulevard for a vegetation fire east of Waterford in the state responsibility area. Units arrived and found a 3-acre vegetation fire requiring extensive mop-up and overhaul of the fire. Crews were committed for several hours to the incident. CalFire is investigating the fire.

 

SUNDAY, JULY 10

3:04 p.m. – Crews were dispatched to a vegetation fire on 28 Mile Road. MST units arrived and reported a vegetation fire with a slow rate of spread. CalFire sent a full response with air attack. Fire was extinguished at five acres. Dozer 4442 cut line around perimeter. Units had a two-hour mop up. CalFire investigating.

3:28 p.m. – E7, E26, and Q22 responded to a pin-in with one vehicle rolled over. E26 arrived to find all occupants out of the vehicles and three patients. After evaluation one person was transported with minor injuries. CHP is investigating the accident.

 

SATURDAY, JULY 9

Crews trained on tactics and strategies for basement fires. Crews worked on proper handline selection and placement and tactical objectives as they relate to this type of scenario.

Station 29 crews conducted LARRO (Low Angle Rope Rescue Operational) training.

8:06 p.m. – Engine 27, WR28, WR29 and BC5 responded to the Horseshoe Rec area for a missing rafter. The rafter did not make it to their group’s rendezvous point, and their raft was located unoccupied on the water. An extensive ground search was conducted by crews for several hours. The rafter was eventually located by a citizen on Highway 108/Lover’s Leap and reunited with their family.

 

FRIDAY, JULY 8

Members continue to assist Cal Fire TCU with incident management team assignments. Personnel are assisting as safety officers, planning and logistics support.

Crews trained with the new probationary firefighters on various skills throughout the day.

A standing tradition in Modesto Fire Department: New firefighters raise the flag on their first day on shift and upon their retirement they lower one last time and it is given to them. Several new firefighters started their assigned shifts this week.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 7

6:40 a.m. – Engine 28, 27, 23, BC5 responded for an injury accident in the Oakdale Fire Protection District. When we arrived, we had three vehicles involved with three patients, one of which was pinned in the vehicle. Crews performed extrication and patient care. Two patients were transported by ground ambulance and one by air ambulance.

9:02 a.m. – A vegetation fire was reported in the 4600 block of Mesa Drive in Riverbank. E26, B28 and BC5 responded. The fire was reported to be an eighth of an acre, when all units cleared it was closer to a half-acre. G23/W23 responded as well, the fire was started by a company contracted by the County for weed abatement.

1:45 p.m. – B24, G23, W23 and BC2 responded to the end of South Reinway for a vegetation fire. The fire was located along the river with limited access. Crews made their way down with backpack pumps and tools to put out the 40x20 area that was creeping in the heavy vegetation. An electric vehicle from the City of Waterford, that is housed at the sewer facility was utilized to transport a pump and hose to the area.

3:53 p.m. – B24, G23, W23 and BC2 were dispatched to a vegetation fire on Hickman north of Whitmore. On arrival a half-acre fire was reported with a moderate rate of spread. B24 was able to hold it to under an acre, G23 and W23 assisted with mop up.

The final day of firefighter interviews concluded at Station 26.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6

Firefighter interviews were conducted at Station 26.

11:30 p.m. – Engine 29, BC5 assisted Tuolumne County with a vehicle rollover east of South Shore Tulloch Road. Engine 29’s crew assisted with patient care of the two occupants of the vehicle that rolled multiple times.
