Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 7-17-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 9 through Monday, July 15. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JULY 15

Battalion 2: Stanislaus crews performed Monday checks on apparatus and finished up with the new 3” hose project.

Engine 26 responded to California Avenue for a child locked in a vehicle. They used the Big Easy Kit to gain access in a timely manner.

Battalion 5: Personnel remain assigned to both the Shelly and Lake fires.

Engine 27 and Engine 28 performed probationary firefighter training focusing on rope systems.

5:37 p.m. – Grass29, Brush 28, Grass 27, Battalion 5, along with Cal Fire TCU were dispatched to a vegetation fire near the ponds off Orange Blossom Road. Grass 29 reported a quarter-acre in heavy fuels with a slow rate of spread. The fire was quickly contained, and most of the response was canceled. Cal Fire investigating.

 

SUNDAY, JULY 14

Battalion 2: Stanislaus Engine 26 trained on utility control within their FMA.

Battalion 5: Battalion 5 met with several stations to provide an Operations update.

Crews completed apparatus and station maintenance.

E27 met with Truck 5 for probationary firefighter training.

 

SATURDAY, JULY 13

Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained with their probationary firefighter on commercial fire attack and laddering parapet roofs.

9:57 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and Battalion 5 responded to a possible drowning on Maple Avenue in Oakdale. When crews arrived, the patient had been pulled from the bottom on the deep end of the pool with no pulse and not breathing. CPR was performed and the patient started breathing and was talking to crews by the time he was transported to the hospital.

6:12 p.m. – Engine 29 was dispatched to Milton and Highway 4 for a vehicle vs. power pole. Engine 29 reported a sheared power pole with power lines down. The vehicle had fled the scene. E29 provided traffic control while PG&E was able to clear the roadway. CHP investigating.

 

FRIDAY, JULY 12

Currently personnel are assigned to assist with fires in various parts of the state. Personnel are assigned to both the Shelly Fire in the Klamath National Forest as well as the Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County.

Battalion 2: The new engine is in the Hi-Tech Emergency Vehicle Services paint shop. It is still several months away from completion.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained with probationary firefighters on rope rescue systems.

4:36 p.m. – Engine 29, Engine 28, and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a solo motorcycle rider crash on Willms Road. Crews arrived on scene and found a 65-year-old male down in the roadway. Due to his injuries, the exposure from the heat and the distance from getting care, he was flown by helicopter to a local hospital.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 11

Battalion 2: Chiefs Avila and Bray met with all of the Battalion 2 crews to discuss operations and leadership philosophies.

Crews completed yard maintenance.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Two members were requested to the Lake Incident through Office of Emergency Services; one member to assist with the IMT and the other as a task force leader.

7:46 p.m. – Grass 29, G26, Brush 1, G21 and Water Tender 21, Battalion 5, along with a full Cal Fire response were dispatched to a vegetation fire behind Woodward Reservoir off 28-Mile Road at the bridge. Units arrived with a small roadside grass fire surrounded by the reservoir and the road. G29 and G26 contained the fire with one Cal Fire engine continued for the report. All other resources were canceled.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 10

Battalion 2: Engine 26 assisted on a smoke detector exchange for an elderly resident in Riverbank.

Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment checks on auxiliary apparatus.

Engine 27’s crew installed a Knox Box for a local citizen.

Battalion 5 attended the Valley Home MAC meeting at Fire Station 30.

8:39 a.m. – Engine 28 responded to a vehicle fire on the Oakdale/Waterford Highway. The fire was quickly contained.

10:25 p.m. – Brush 28, Grass/Water Tender 27, Brush/Water Tender 23, Quint 22, and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a vegetation fire on Victory Avenue south of Highway 120. Brush 28 reported a small roadside grass fire. Brush 28 handled and canceled the balance.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 9

Fire Chief Wise presented badges to Engineer Villalobos and Engineer Heimeyer at Modesto Fire Department Administration.

Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Companies conducted training in their respective FMA’s.

Engine 28 participated in Quarterly Hazmat Training.

Engine 27 conducted company level training focusing on 2½” hose stretches.
