The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 8 through Monday, Aug. 14. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, AUG. 14
MFD personnel recognized the retirement of Fire Chief Alan Ernst from the Modesto Fire Department. Chief Ernst served the community of Modesto for over 26 years and served in every rank in the Modesto Fire Department.
Battalion 2: 2:32 p.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26 and BC1 responded to a vehicle accident on McHenry Avenue. Engine 7 arrived to find three vehicles involved and began to check for injuries. Crews treated multiple patients with minor injuries and two ambulances were utilized to transport patients to local emergency rooms. CHP investigating.
All stations performed weekly Engine maintenance.
Battalion 5: 9:24 p.m. – Engines 28, 27, 29, and BC5 responded to east Oakdale for a two-car accident. Crews arrived and quickly triaged the patients. Engine 29 was added to the call to establish a landing zone for air ambulance. One patient was transport by air ambulance to a local hospital and the second was transported by ground. Crews remained on scene to help family members and assist with cleaning the roadway.
SUNDAY, AUG. 13
Battalion 2: Engine 24 performed hose deployment training at a vacant residence and Station 23 trained on radio etiquette for CalFire incidents, as well as expectations for personnel when they split up and take the Grass/Brush and the tender.
7:29 p.m. A full vegetation response was sent to Turlock Lake. On arrival BC2 found a small fire with no growth potential. G23/WT23 continued, the balance cancelled.
Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Engine 27 continued with Probationary skill sign offs, one of which includes many aspects of utilizing salvage covers and other various equipment to build catch-alls, sumps and water chutes.
2:33 p.m. – Engine 27, 28, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded to Maxwell Avenue in Oakdale for a potential structure fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a water heater sparking in the basement of a home. Crews secured the unit and checked the area for extension. No extension was found.
9:47 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to the 900 block of Yosemite for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find a big rig vs. a passenger vehicle. One occupant was treated and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
SATURDAY, AUG. 12
Battalion 2: All stations participated in apparatus and station maintenance.
Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Crews trained on hose line deployment and pumping evolutions.
Engine 28 and Battalion 5 attended the Love 209 event in Oakdale.
6:22 p.m. – Engine 29 and Battalion 5 assisted CalFire with a medical aid at South Shore Tulloch for a patient of a fall. Units arrived on scene to find the ambulance treating a patient with significant injuries. Crews assisted with patient care and setting up an LZ. The patient was transported to a Modesto area hospital by air ambulance, PHI Med 4-2.
FRIDAY, AUG. 11
Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Crews trained on boat operations, focusing on bringing patients into the boat.
Battalion 5 attended the Joint Operations training at MPD.
8:17 a.m. – Engine 27, 28 and Battalion 5 to Sierra Road for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find one vehicle rolled over into a field with the patient out of the vehicle. Crews evaluated and treated the patient for moderate injuries. The patient was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
9:39 a.m. – Engine 27, 28, Quint 22 and Battalion 2 to Yosemite Avenue for a potential structure fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a small fire in a commercial fan that was out. Crews remained on scene to isolate the power and ensure no fire extended into the building.
