Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 8-7-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 30 through Monday, Aug. 5. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, AUG. 5

Personnel continue to assist CalFire as part of the Incident Management Team on the Park Fire in Butte County.

Battalion 2: Crews completed weekly apparatus checks.

Battalion 5: The Sierra 4-H had some members stop by Station 28 and drop off some treats in appreciation to public service members.

9 p.m. – Engine 28 was dispatched to a vehicle fire on Claribel Road.

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 4

Battalion 5: 12:15 a.m. – Modesto Brush 28, Grass 27, Water Tender 27 and Battalion Chief 5 responded with CalFire to Woodward Reservoir for reports of a vegetation fire. B28 arrived on scene and found a quarter-acre grass fire that was quickly extinguished. Crews remained on scene to overhaul the fire.

Chief Presson and Firefighter Braxton continue their assignment with the Incident Management Team.

Engine 29 participated in a public safety day at River Oak Church.

11:12 p.m. – Battalion 5 and OES4615 provided auto aid to Cal Fire TCU on a vegetation fire at South Tulloch across the dam. Once forward progress was stopped, both Modesto resources were released.

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 3

Battalion 2: Engine 26, Engine 23, and Quint 22 conducted rope rescue drills in Station 22’s FMA.

Battalion 5: Battalion Chief Presson and Firefighter Philipps are currently assigned to the Park Fire. They are assisting in the plans section of the incident management team.

Crews placed new Brush 28 into service.

10:50 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27 responded to West F Street near Oak Avenue for a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle. Crews arrived on scene and found one rider down in the roadway. Crews began patient care on one patient with life-threatening injuries. Firefighter from E27 and Engineer Medic 27 assisted with patient care while enroute to the emergency room. OPD was on scene investigating.

3:40 p.m. – Modesto B29, Modesto OES 4615 and BC5 responded to Highway 4 and Milton Road for a vehicle fire and vegetation fire. Cal Fire TCU also responded with a full wildland response. Crews arrived on scene and found a pickup fully involved on the roadway and a small vegetation fire. Crews assisted with the extinguishment and overhaul of the fires.

9:07 p.m. – Modesto Boat 28, Boat 29, E27 and BC5 responded to the 16000 block of Frymire Road for reports of seven rafters who had become lost in the dark on the river. Units arrived on scene and were able to locate the subjects and safely get them to the road to safety. Sheriff’s Office personnel were also on scene to assist.

 

FRIDAY, AUG. 2

Battalion 2: Stanislaus Companies completed equipment maintenance today.

Battalion 5: Engine 12 and Engine 28 conducted probationary firefighter training and task book signoffs with Truck 5 at Fire Station 17.

New Brush 28 was delivered to Fire Station 28.

Battalion 5 crews completed Target Solutions assignments and reviewed policies and procedures relating to wildland emergencies.

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 1

Chief Wise and several Deputy Chiefs conducted a department briefing over Teams.

Battalion 2: Stanislaus Companies rotated through EMS quarterly training at Station 22.

Brush 24, Grass 23, Water Tender 23, and BC2 all returned from the Pedro Fire.

Battalion 5: 12:07 a.m. – G27, WT27, G29, G30, B12 and Battalion 5 responded to Orchard Road for a vegetation fire along the river bottom. Crews encountered two separate fires and extinguished both and cleared after a lengthy mop up.

10:20 p.m. – E9, E26, Q22 and BC5 were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover on McGee Avenue in east Modesto. Upon arrival crews found a male driver on the ground next to the vehicle. Crews performed CPR on the patient, but medics declared him deceased at the scene.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 31

Chief Wise presented Captains Criswell and Nicholes with their five-year recognition of service certificates.

Battalion 2: 2:16 p.m. – Engine 23, Grass 3, Grass 30, Water Tender 6, and Battalion 2 responded to a vegetation fire at 701 Albers Road. Crews located 50 x 50 feet of Dry Creek on fire, which was quickly contained.

Battalion 5: E27 completed EMS quarterly training and received the new B28 from Hi-Tech Fire apparatus and delivered it to Station 28.

7:18 p.m. – E27, E28, E26 and Battalion 5 responded to a report of a water rescue on the river in the Cost Less parking lot in Oakdale. A man had been assaulted and was on the bank of the river partially in the water. Crews used rescue equipment and manpower and were able to get him up the bank to the awaiting ambulance and transported to a local hospital. Oakdale PD had a suspect in custody at the scene.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 30

Battalion 2: 1:07 p.m. – Grass 23, Water Tender 23, Brush 24, Brush 28, and Battalion 2 were dispatched to vegetation fire on South Old La Grange Road. Cal Fire MMU was working a vegetation fire on Highway 132 near Lake Don Pedro. All units were reassigned to the fire to assist Cal Fire.

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through Quarterly EMS Training at Fire Station 22 to review updated protocol and EMS skills.
