Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 9-18-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Sept. 10 through Monday, Sept. 16. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, SEPT. 16

Personnel continue to assist with the Line Fire in San Bernardino County and the Bridge Fire in San Bernardino/Los Angeles counties. Two Battalion Chiefs are deployed as strike team leaders and OES 4615 is out with three personnel.

Battalion 2: Crews completed the weekly engine checks on the first out apparatus at their stations.

The crew at Station 26 was able to repair the plumbing leak on Grass 26, taking the initiative to get the engine repaired in-house quickly, saving the district time and money.

Battalion 5: Congratulations to Firefighter Chris Fritz who successfully completed his 10-month probationary test.

Crews worked on completing company level training.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 15

Members continue to assist on the Line Fire and Bridge Fire in Southern part of the state.

Battalion 2: 7:29 a.m. – A potential structure fire was dispatched to the 500 block of F Street in Waterford for a hot wall outlet. Crews were able to isolate the power and remove the outlet. There was no extension into the wall.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 continued training for their firefighter’s upcoming probationary testing.

Engine 15, Engine 27, and BC5 conducted Hire Back Training at Station 27.

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 14

Battalion 2: 11:10 a.m. – Water Rescues 24, 28, and Engine 23 responded to Modesto Reservoir for a subject underwater near the A loop campgrounds. The Sheriff’s boat and WR24 located the subject underwater, and was brought to shore near the Oak Valley Ambulance staging location. ALS care was provided, and after 20 minutes, the paramedic called the hospital, and direction was given to stop resuscitation efforts. Stanislaus County sheriffs are investigating the incident.

Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly station maintenance, company level and on-line training.

Crews responded to several calls for service within the community providing emergency medical care and public assistance.

 

FRIDAY, SEPT. 13

Modesto City Firefighters Local 1289 participated in the Battle of the Badges charity softball tournament hosted by the Modesto Police Department.

Battalion 2: Station 26’s firefighter completed her 10-month probationary test.

Crews performed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

12:54 p.m. – Brush 24, Brush 23, Water Tender 23, and Battalion 2 responded to a report of a vegetation fire at Oakdale-Waterford Highway and Milnes Road. The reported fire was a permitted control burn.

Battalion 5: 12:36 p.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26, Truck 5, and BC5 responded to the 5000 block of Squire Wells Way for a report of a natural gas leak inside the business. Upon arrival crews checked the business with a four-gas monitor and were unable to detect any hazardous atmosphere. The gas to the store was shut off and PG&E was called to the scene for precaution. Crews provided patient care to one person onsite having a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital.

1:12 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Milton Road and Highway 4. Engine 28 arrived on scene with one vehicle off the roadway west of the intersection. Engine 28 cancelled the responding balance due to it being negative injuries.

 

THURSDAY, SEPT. 12

Battalion Chief Serpa is assigned as a strike team leader for an out of area OES Engine strike team in San Bernardino County while firefighters Bell and Phillip are assisting with the incident management team. All are assigned to the Line Fire.

Battalion Chief Rice along with OES Engine 339 (Turlock) and OES Grass 4615 (Modesto) are assigned to the Bridge Fire.

Battalion 2: Engine 26 and Battalion 2 attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Save Mart in Riverbank. Save Mart presented the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District with a donation for enhancing Department programs.

Station 26 completed water rescue boat training at Woodward Reservoir.

Battalion 5: The probationary firefighter at Station 27 continued to study and prepare for his test by studying material for his written examination.

 

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 11

Led by Chief Wise, the Modesto Fire Department held a ceremony at Station 1 in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks. Also attending were members of the Modesto Police Department, City Dignitaries and the public.

Battalion 2: Crews participated in a September 11 Ceremony at Station 26 in Riverbank.

Battalion 5: 7:29 p.m. – E28, E27, T5 and BC5 were dispatched to the Motel 6 for a potential structure fire in Oakdale. Crews arrived to find an electrical shortage in the maintenance room. The problem was isolated, and PG&E was called.

 

TUESDAY, SEPT. 10

HazMat Team trained on the monitors and reviewed case studies and upcoming training.

An informal badge pinning for family was held for two members who were recognized for their recent promotions and one new hire to the department. Congratulations to Chief Andrew Hunter promoted to Assistant Chief, Chief Shannon Evans promoted to Deputy Chief and Megan Zimmerman hired as the EMS Coordinator. A formal department wide ceremony will be held at a later date.

Engineer Micah Huson was recognized for five years of service with Modesto Fire Department.

Battalion 5: 3:10 p.m. – Grass 26 and Brush 28 responded to a roadside vegetation fire on Patterson Road, cross of Crane Road. The fire was less than a quarter acre and quickly contained. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
