Chalmer Quentin Hendrix, 96, died Thursday, Dec. 6 in Branson, Mo.
He was first born son to Calvin and Louiza Hendrix in Ava, Mo. He was raised and worked hard at their family farm in Ava. He met the love of his life, Lucille Langston, in Ava and they were married on June 17, 1939.
Mr. Hendrix retired from Tri-Valley Growers in 1981 after 38 years. After retirement, he and his wife loved to travel, but due to his wife's health they were limited to making short trips, such as Lake Tahoe. After his wife's death, his desire to travel continued and he made numerous trips to Ava and Branson, Mo., and Jackson Hole, Wyo. Jackson Hole was his favorite, where he loved to view the elk herds and made many lasting friendships. He celebrated his last few birthdays in Jackson Hole where his friends threw some terrific birthday parties for him.
He also loved gardening, growing such things as tobacco, tomatoes, and his famous eight-foot tall okra plant.
He is survived by his sons, Carroll (Donna) of Lakeside, Ore., Norman (Patti) of Riverbank; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and many wonderful friends and acquaintances, including his breakfast friendship group in Oakdale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille in 1989; eldest child, Elwanda Porter in 2003; and son-in-law, Sherman Porter in 2010.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 13 at Riverbank Memorial Chapel, 3131 Santa Fe St., from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Riverbank Memorial Chapel, on Friday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m., with internment to follow at Lakewood Cemetery, Hughson.
