Donald MacCready, 89, died Friday, June 6 in Modesto.

He was born in Thayer, Kan. to the late Harry and Grace MacCready.

Donald was known to family and friends as Don. Through the United States Army, Don served our country proudly during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific as a combat medic where he ran the battalion aide station. He continued to serve long after his discharge with his fellow veterans as a member of the VFW post 6311 and was a part of the Honor Guard. He was passionate about his country and was always a patriotic veteran. He was in construction by trade where he was a Carpenter for over 40 years. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Post 25 where he was past president. Family was always first and foremost in Don’s life. He was extremely involved in every aspect of his children’s activities as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were some of the more instrumental groups that he enjoyed. Don loved the outdoors as he was an avid fisherman, camper and hunter especially when he lived in Alaska. Don was a gentle, kind, reserved man who was accepting to everyone. His non-judgmental spirit never went unnoticed as he never met a stranger. Don will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father and an amazing grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Donna Cardoso, Dorthy (Vince) Gonzalez, Debra (Bill) Stacy, Don (John) MacCready Jr., and Dana Beasley of Riverbank; nine grandchildren, some of Oakdale; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Darline; infant daughter, Anna Marie; his parents; and son-in-law, Tony Cardoso.

Visitation was held June 12, followed by a Celebration of Life service at P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home, Manteca. A second visitation was held on June 13, followed by a funeral service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Manteca. He was laid to rest with his beloved wife at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi.
