Eldora Rae Van Nieuwenhuyzen was born on March 15, 1947, in Slayton, MN to Charles “Billy” and Arleen Ireton. She grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1965. Just a few weeks after graduating high school, Dorie Ireton married Cordell Van Nieuwenhuyzen. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together. Following their marriage, they established their first home together in Chandler, MN where they welcomed their five children. In 1984, they moved to Oakdale, CA where she found employment at Schwan’s and Tony’s/Red Baron Pizza.
Dorie passed away on November 23, 2021, at the age of 74. When she was not out traveling the country with Cordell in the RV, Dorie enjoyed spending her time crafting, playing table games such as cards or dominos, baking, and decorating her home for the holidays. A sweet and caring woman, you could always count on Dorie to be one of the first ones to send you a birthday or get-well card. Survivors include her husband, Cordell Van Nieuwenhuyzen of Oakdale, CA; three daughters Penny and her husband Kelvin Struiksma of Oakdale, CA; Pamela and her husband David Santangelo of Fort Worth, TX; Patty and her husband Bob Blink of Modesto, CA and son Perry Van Nieuwenhuyzen of Modesto, CA. Eldora also had four grandchildren including Rachel and Katelyn Struiksma; and Nicole and Nathan Santangelo; three sisters Charletta Bennett of Hadley, MN, Carol Lentz of Slayton, MN and her twin sister, Elnora “Norie” and Henry Kraai of Slayton, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents and son Larry Van Nieuwenhuyzen.
Funeral Services are being planned for Slayton, MN.
