Evelyn May Tapia, 73, of Rancho Cucamonga died Friday, Sept. 19 of natural causes.

She was a resident of the Rancho Mesa Care Center in Rancho Cucamonga for the last six years. She was born in Gallup, NM, and moved to Riverbank when she was eight. She attended Cardozo School and graduated from Oakdale High School.

Ms. Tapia settled in Oakdale for most of her adult life, and became "Gramma Evie" to all of the children who attended Just for Kids Daycare where she spent so much of her time. She was also a caretaker for the elderly including her mother until her passing. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, and especially watching her soaps.

She loved her family and her friends and enjoyed all of the family get-togethers. She touched so many lives and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her ex-husband with whom she remained friends; daughters, Mary (Phil) Gordon of Riverbank, Lori Marangakis of Upland; sons, Abe Tapia Jr. of Upland, David (Dixie) Tapia of Arizona; grandchildren, Amy (John) Waayers, Ashley Gordon, Christy Tapia, Abe III "Joe" Tapia, Jessica Tapia, Ruben and Christian Marangakis; and many friends and relatives.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Assembly of God Church, 105 East G St., Oakdale.
