Fern Alice Brenton Guthrie, 88, died Friday, Sept. 21 at home with her loving family at her side.

She was born Sept. 5, 1924, the daughter of Oliver and Goldie Brenton in Villisca, Iowa. She grew up in Nodaway, Iowa and graduated from Nodaway High School. She moved to Oakdale in 1966.

Her joy in life was being a wonderful grandma and great-grandma.

Mrs. Guthrie loved to garden and crochet and her family will miss all her homemade gifts. She had a great sense of humor and her family enjoyed going to her house for Christmas. She also enjoyed spending time with neighborhood friends and having them over for coffee and homemade cookies. Everyone loved her famous peach pies.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Mac) Graham of Oakdale, Goldie (Ken) Ferguson of Riverbank; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Floyd Guthrie; daughter, Connie Johnson; infant son, Albert Guthrie; her parents; three brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral services were held Sept. 27 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joe Ferguson officiating. Interment was at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Oakdale.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Stanislaus County Hospice.
