FERNANDA OLIVEIRA

FEB. 4, 1928 – NOV. 21, 2014

 Cherished mother and devoted grandmother Fernanda Simoes Medeiros Oliveira of Riverbank passed away due to heart failure at 3:08 p.m. on Friday, November 21st. She was born February 4, 1928, to Egidio and Maria Jose Medeiros, in Mosteiros, Sao Miguel, and was raised in St. Amaro on the island of Faial in the Azores. She married her husband, Manuel Caetano Oliveira in 1948. She immigrated to Canada in 1961 and then moved to San Leandro in 1966 before settling in Riverbank in 1974. A pillar of strength and faith, she worked hard to ensure her family had everything they could possibly need.  She was also a talented award winning Portuguese poet and lyricist, seamstress, and handicrafts person.  

She was a member of the Portuguese Fraternal Society of America (UPEC) and attended St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Riverbank. Due to her great compassion for and the desire to feed the hungry, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to St Frances of Rome Divine Providence Ministry in her memory. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel and son Dino Oliveira. 

She is survived by her four children Egidio “Jeep” Oliveira (Elizabeth), Fernanda Flores (Agustin), Elia Oliveira, all of Riverbank and Dina Pignatelli (David) of Saratoga. She will be missed by her much adored grandchildren: Victor, Michael, and Ricky Flores, Christopher Oliveira, Mallory Vieira, Natasha and David Pignatelli. Also mourning her death are brother Leonel Medeiros and sister Lina Miereles of San Leandro, and Leodina Serpa and Fatima Borba of San Jose, Alvarina Medeiros of Rhode Island, and Mimi Esteves of Portugal.

Services are pending at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, 2827 Topeka Street, Riverbank.
