Oakdale resident and former marine Francis (Frank) Dwight Scott passed away January 30, of this year after a long bout with cancer.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1933, Frank moved to Oakdale after spending 24 years in service to his country with the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves where he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant.
Frank continued his dedication to service as an active member of the Oakdale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2922 and with Marine Corps League Detachment 019 of Modesto. He was also active in his church and was a member of the Legion of Merit at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church.
His final wish was to be interned at the National Veterans Cemetery in Santa Nella with full military honors, which is being handled by Oakdale Memorial Chapel. Saint Mary’s Catholic Church is planning to hold a Celebration of Life.
Frank is survived by his brother Dean Scott and wife Joanne, and sister Eileen and husband Robert McGahen of Pennsylvania, and his grandson Nicolas Tsarnes. His great nephew Daniel Valdez of Vallejo has been handling his affairs and has spoken reverently about him as a mentor who taught him valuable life lessons.
