Gary Acker passed on November 18, 2022, at Alexander Cohen Hospice House, following a short battle with cancer. He valued, above all, his Catholic faith, loving family, and many good friends. Gary enjoyed a nearly 30-year career with Hershey Foods in Oakdale, CA and Hershey, PA, retiring from his position as HR director in 1999. In his free time he pursued fly fishing, appreciated a (very) dry gin martini and perfected his high-fidelity audio, the better to enjoy his favorite artists Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Fleetwood Mac. He had an extraordinary memory for detail and relished a good conversation.
Loved ones who will miss him are wife Peggy, children Joel Acker (Nancy), Stephanie Schofield (Wil) and Jeremy Acker (Lezlie); grandchildren Kate, Abby and Emma Schofield, Sophie Acker, and Evelyn and Hudson Acker; sister Keady Maudsley; niece Megan Keough and family; and sister-in-law Sandra Acker and family.
He is predeceased by parents Elwyn and Frances Acker and brother Joseph Acker.
Donations can be made in Gary’s memory to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA, 95356, or Second Harvest of the Greater Valley, PO Box 4039, Manteca, CA, 95337-0001.
A memorial service is pending.
