Gayle Virginia Gross 93, of Carlisle, Penn. died Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born in Carlisle, Penn., a daughter of Parker and Mima (Horn) Quigley.

Mrs. Gross was a longtime resident of Riverbank before returning to Pennsylvania in her later years.

She worked for 25 years at the former Carlisle Garment Factory. She was a former member of the Covenant Church in Modesto where she was active in the Women’s Mission Group. She had reconditioned hundreds of dolls for the Interfaith Ministries in Modesto that were given as gifts to underprivileged children. She was affectionately known as “The Doll Lady.”

She loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her daughters, Kim A. (Gilbert) Wymond of Modesto, Joby G. (Denny) Ruth of Carlisle, Penn.; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gross; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Gross; son, Dennis C. Gross; daughter, Gaylene Gross; two brothers; five sisters; and her parents.

Remembrances may be made in her honor to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
