George Harry Brown, Jr. 59, of Riverbank died Thursday, May 6.
A native of Oakland, he resided in the Riverbank/Modesto area for the last four years. He was a 1961 graduate of San Leandro High School, where he served as treasurer of his sophomore class.
He became a chef in 1964, working many restaurants in the Bay area and opening two of his own at various times. He was employed as a chef with Flix on Patterson Road in Riverbank at the time of his death. He was a family man, who enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Dutton-Dryden of Riverbank; daughter Cassie Marie of Wyoming; step-children, Julie Brown-Mayfield of Riverbank and Jimmy Ward of Alameda; best friends, Richard "Jimmy" Lista of San Jose and Susan Bronczek of Modesto; half-sisters, Jennifer and Wendy of California; grandchildren, Kimberly Petree of Modesto, Justin Brown of Middletown, Kayla Ward of Albany, Ore. and great-grandchildren, Kali and Tiffany of Modesto.
Rosary was said Friday, May 14 at Riverbank Memorial Chapel. Memorial service was held on Saturday, May 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oakdale. Visitation was held.
