James LeRoy Landes, 81 years, passed away January 29, at home in Stockton with his family. He was born October 25, 1939 in Oakdale CA, to his parents Bryan Leo Landes and Helen Armstrong Landes.
He grew up on a modest farm in Oakdale with his family close by. He spent many happy times with his older brothers Louis and Paul Landes and his sister Dolores Landes Boyle and their families. He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1957 and joined the Army National Guard. He attended Modesto Junior College and The University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. At his 10-year high school reunion, he met the love of his life, Nancy Marrs. They were married and moved to Stockton to raise their three children, Michael, Bryan, and Emily Landes DeGrande. Always a dedicated father, he was a Boy Scout leader for his sons for many years, also serving on the local council where he led his son Bryan to earning his Eagle rank. Jim was a loyal member of the Catholic Church and often helped in many ways and joined the Knights of Columbus and Serra Clubs to offer his assistance. He worked for more than 30 years and retired from IBM and Kodak where he repaired typewriters and copier machines. Jim loved more than anything to be with his family which includes his three children, his 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest in a graveside service with his wife in Oakdale Citizens Cemetery on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 1:00 pm. His family would like to invite all to join them after the ceremony for a celebration of his life at the House of Beef in Oakdale after the service.
