Jeanette Bemis Bessac, 84, of Sonora died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Skyline Place, Sonora.

Mrs. Bessac was a native of Big Creek and lived in Sonora seven years. She had previously lived in Riverbank 75 years.

She graduated from Oakdale High School, Mt. Zion School of Nursing, and was a member of the first graduating class of Stanislaus State University.

She was a school nurse at Riverbank School District for 14 years. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Riverbank Women's Club, DeMolay Mothers Club, Riverbank Parent-Teacher Association, Epsilon Nu Delta Kappa Gamma and Riverbank Methodist Church. She was guardian of Bethel 156, Jobs Daughters and was active in Brownies and Cub Scouts.

She is survived by her daughter, Mari Ann Bloom of Sonora; sister, Betty DeWitt of Riverbank; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion R. Bessac; and son, Arthur B. Bessac.

A graveside service was held Friday, Sept.10, at Stockton Rural Cemetery. A memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 10, at Riverbank United Methodist Church. Riverbank Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
