John Wesley Benson, 76, of Oakdale died Friday, Dec. 31 at Oak Valley Hospital.

A native of Fresno, he lived in Oakdale for 12 years. He was a pilot at United Airlines for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He belonged to First General Baptist Church, Oakdale.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Joy Benson of Oakdale; children, Beverly Garmany of Chinese Camp, Cynthia Brooks of Riverbank, Cecelia Whitehouse of Turlock and Darcie Jamison of Minnesota; brother, Donald Benson of Escalon; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Benson.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at First General Baptist Church, Oakdale. Burial to follow at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon.

Oakdale Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
