John 'Jack,' 'Ike' Woods died in Riverbank Tuesday, Nov. 4 after a brave battle with a long illness.

He was born in Flint, MI. He came from Michigan to live in Riverbank with his parents and his sister at age four.

Mr. Woods graduated in 1956 from Oakdale High School where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Breitenfeld. He and his wife celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.

He retired from Montgomery-Kone Elevator Company as an elevator mechanic after 33 years. He considered himself very fortunate to have developed lifelong friendships with many of his customers and coworkers through those years.

He proudly served on the Riverbank Volunteer Fire Department for 39 years, retiring as a Volunteer Fire Chief.

He enjoyed family get-togethers in the backyard, camping at the ocean and mountains, his remodeling projects, traveling with his wife, and woodworking. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and they brought him great happiness. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Woods of Riverbank; children, John Woods, Beverly Friend, and Cyndi Costalupes and their spouses, Sandy, John, and Steven; sister, Grace Ellis of Phoenix, AZ; grandsons, Michael Dark, Joshua Dark, Brock Costalupes, Blake Costalupes, and Nicholas Woods; step-grandchildren, Evan O'Dell, Sara O'Dell, J.C. Friend, Robby Friend, and Samantha Friend.

Services were held Nov. 8 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Lakewood Cemetery.
