Joseph (Joe) Gobel, 90, entered into rest at home, the way he wanted, with his loving family by his side on March 25, 2021. Joe was born December 28, 1930 in Arkansas to the late Mollie and Joseph Gobel.
Joe is survived by his beloved brother Wayne Gobel, daughters Brenda (Bob) Milano, Mickey (Tim) Neuner, and Cindy (Dave) Nicholson.
Joe was preceded in death by his sister Anna Marques, his wife Ann (Miller) Gobel, step son Kevin Miller and son in law Dave Nicholson.
Joe proudly served his country as a United States Marine in Korea and returned home to Manteca to start a family. His greatest joy was his family - he was a family man in the truest sense of the word.
He married Pat Covington in 1952. They raised Brenda, Mickey, and Cindy in their home in Manteca, where they made many happy memories. On camping trips to the lake, every kid knew to ride home with Joe because they knew he’d stop and buy everyone a frosty. Joe always had a joke for every occasion and took the time to make people happy.
Joe worked for the Department of Corrections (DVI), then Sierra Conservation Center Jamestown until retirement.
Divorced in 1970, Joe moved to Oakdale and later married Ann (Miller) Gobel in 1976.
Joe and Ann created a warm, loving home to enjoy their children, 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Friends and family were always welcome. Ann passed away in 2017 and went to heaven to wait for Joe.
Joe will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune to meet him.
The family would like to thank Cindy Nicholson, Joe’s youngest daughter for her loving and selfless caregiving, especially during the last four years of his life. Thanks for letting him win at cribbage - you made him so happy.
Due to COVID restrictions there will be a private ceremony.
