Josephine S. 'Josie' Marshall, 76, died of cancer Friday, Oct. 19 in Brookings, OR. She was born in Escalon and grew up there on a dairy farm owned by her father, who was from Azores Island. She lived in Brookings, OR for 10 years. She worked at Doctors Hospital in Modesto and advanced to head dietician, in charge of hospital food services. A few years later, she returned to the Escalon School District as head cook, working at Van Allen School. There, she met her husband. She and her husband opened the Marshall Art Gallery after moving to the Tomales area in Marin County that offered custom framing, art classes, and more. She met many renowned artists from the San Francisco and Marin County areas. They moved to Oregon about 15 years ago. She enjoyed her family, gardening, painting, and camping and fishing with her husband. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Roy Marshall; children, Allen Olney of Paradise; Larry Bell of Brookings, OR, Pam Swanson of Escalon, Jeannine Flynn of Scappoose, OR, Dennis Marshall of Montgomery Creek; brothers, Reggie and Bill Olney of Orland; sister, Marie Parshall of Oakdale; great-aunt, Josephine Lema of Sacramento; grandchildren, Brian Langford and Crystal Swanson of Escalon, Mike Olney of Hidden Valley Lake, Matthew Olney of Santa Maria, Wendy Rattel of Burnsville, MN, Chad Marshall, Kerri Ann Marshall, and Caleb Webb; and 13 great-grandchildren.
