Josephine Stadler, 92, of Lucas Valley, passed away on May 8, 2024. She was born in Manteca to Robert and Juliana Stadler and lived her early years in Lathrop until the family moved to property in Oakdale. Josephine graduated from Oakdale High School in 1950 and afterward worked as a receptionist and secretary for two Oakdale physicians. At 21 Josephine moved to San Francisco where she worked at an insurance brokerage. In the mid-1950s she married and moved to Lucas Valley, where she lovingly raised her four children. In the mid-1970s she attended College of Marin where she completed her A.A. degree and began a long career in various capacities there. Josephine worked as an instructional assistant in English; as the typesetter and managing editor of the college newspapers; as a graphic artist for the publications department. In 1983 she became the assistant to the director of the COM Children’s Centers and worked in this position until retirement.
After retirement Josephine enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, and visiting and traveling with family and friends. She continued to be the family matriarch and nurtured and supported her children and grandchildren. Josephine is survived by her children, Paul Beber-Vanzo; Bryan Beber-Vanzo; Francesca Foster and grandchildren, Jesse Beber-Vanzo; Lucas Beber-Vanzo; Juliana Foster; Sofia Foster; Anthony Beber-Vanzo. She is also survived by her siblings, Elizabeth Brichetto; John Stadler; Rosemarie Swain; Carl Stadler (Margaret); Barbara Gookin (Ed); Catherine “Kate” Leiva, along with a large extended family of nephews and nieces. Josephine was preceded in death by her son David Beber-Vanzo; her parents; siblings, Rev. Robert Stadler; Joseph Stadler; Marianne Orvis; Caroline Baley. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gene Parfitt, a dear family friend who provided compassionate care and support to Josephine and family.
May Josephine (“Little Jo”) forever be dancing the jitterbug and sweetly singing “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.”
