Lewis H. Yelland, 90, of Escalon died Tuesday, Nov. 6 in Stockton. Born on Sept. 12, 1917 in Stockton, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Ruth (Dyer) Yelland. He was raised on the family farm on Sharpes Lane (now So. Airport Way) in Stockton. He served five years in the army during World War II in the Pacific and European theaters. When he returned from the service, he worked on the family farm until 1950, when he moved into town and went to work for Valley Glass and later Stockton Shower Door, where he retired in 1982 as lead glazier and superintendent. In his retirement years he lived on his ranch in Escalon growing almonds. He and his wife loved to travel by trailer and hit their favorite fishing spots. He kept busy up until just a month before his death. Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Yelland, daughter-in-law Diana Yelland; grandchildren, Mark Yelland, Matt Yelland, Kristen Preece and Heather (James) Rapae and their sons, Tyler, Jordan and Kaden, his great grandsons; also very close and good friend Helen Conway. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel; son Michael; sister Evelyn and brother Walter. Services were held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel in Stockton on Monday, Nov. 12 with burial at Park View Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. The Escalon (Calif.)
