Mickey Carole Tancredy Peabody, 89, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, surrounded by her family. Mickey was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be remembered for her kindness and steady presence. She had a deep love for her family and took great pride in the life she built.

Born on September 27, 1936, in Fresno, California, to her parents, Nick and Shirley Tancredy, she was the middle sister among five daughters. While living in Fresno, she met the love of her life, Richard Peabody, while attending Fresno High School. Together, they shared 63 loving years of marriage. In 1965, they settled in Oakdale, where they built their home and she became deeply rooted in the community.

Mickey worked tirelessly as a community advocate. Her early career began in real estate sales, property development, and property management. She also worked in behavioral health outreach, including mental health, chronic pain management, and adult and adolescent chemical dependency services. She served as the Field Representative for Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors District 1, Pat Paul, and was the campaign coordinator for Stanislaus Taxpayers for Traffic Relief.

She was elected to the Oakdale City Council in 1994, where she served for six years, including two years as Mayor Pro-Tem. She was appointed to the Stanislaus County Mental Health Advisory Board in 1984, where she served for 20 years and served as the chair of the Older Adult System of Care. She led the campaign for the Oak Valley Hospital Replacement Bond, which successfully raised $99 million for a new hospital.

She proudly served on the Stanislaus County Commission on Aging beginning in 2004 and served two terms as Chair. She was appointed to the California Senior Legislature in 2004 and also served on both the Joint Rules Committee and the Legislation Committee. In addition, Mickey helped found the Spirit of Oakdale, the MOVE program, and the Silver Strummers ukulele group.

Over the years, she received numerous awards, some including:

Outstanding Woman of the Year – Commission for Women

Leadership Award – California Public Health Consortium

Outstanding Senior Citizen – Stanislaus County District 1

She is survived by her children, Richard and Celeste; her guardian children, Anna and Hilarry; as well as five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Peabody, and her daughter, Lindsay (Cacha) Peabody.

A memorial service will be held on April 3 at 10 a.m. at the Oakdale Senior Center. Donations may be made to the City of Oakdale in support of the Senior Center.

Mickey’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
