Rev. Allen Jonathan 'Joe' Jones Jr., 68, died Tuesday, Jan. 1.

He was born in Phoenix, AZ, the first of four children born to Allen J. and Helen L. Jones. The family moved to California in 1940.

Rev. Jones was an ordained Assemblies of God minister and a member of the Northern California/Nevada District, Riverbank Assembly of God Church, Oakdale Assembly of God Church, and Central Assembly in Springfield, MO.

He had a great tenor voice, participating in several High School musicals while a student at Oakdale High School. He also made two Christian recordings, which his family will cherish.

He married Nadine Powers in 1957 and they raised two daughters. He owned and operated the Magic Carpet store in Oakdale from 1975 to 1980 with his brothers.

He received a B.S. from Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz and an M.S. from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO.

He and his wife became Assemblies of God missionaries serving in Belgium and France with International Correspondence Institute (ICI). They also traveled on mission trips to Africa and India. He continued his missionary work with Global University in Springfield, MO, later joining Global Colleagues where he served until his death.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nadine Powers Jones of Springfield, MO; daughters, Sherry (Jeff) James of Richmond, VA, and Brenda (Fred) Berry of Modesto; siblings, Ruth Ann (Donald) Bradley of Modesto, Donald L. (Janie) Jones, and Rick W. (Rachel) Jones of Oakdale; mother, Helen L. Jones of Oakdale; granddaughters, Michelle, Amanda and Natalie; and great-grandson, Treyvon, all of Modesto.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen J. Jones, Sr.

Funeral services were held Jan. 8.
