Robert ‘Bob’ Wade, 72, died Saturday, April 26.

He was born in Florence, Ariz. and moved to Riverbank at the age of six where he remained until his death.

He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1960. He met his future bride, Sharon Johnson, of Knights Ferry at Nifty’s Drive-in in Riverbank and married her six months later. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandpa to his family.

Mr. Wade served as a Riverbank Police reserve officer in the early sixties. He began working at Norris Industry in 1965. In 1975 he and his wife became the owners of Western Auto in downtown Riverbank. He later went to work as an auto mechanic for Montgomery Ward in Modesto until the business closed in 2000.

He had a passion for cars. He loved working on them and would often receive phone calls from friends and family with car trouble questions. He also enjoyed stock car racing, reading Louis L’Amour novels, camping at Kennedy Meadows, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Sharon of 51 years; children, Bobby Wade, Cheryl (John) Goulart; brother, Lyndel (Betty) Wade; and grandchildren, Emily and John Goulart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.R. and Bessie Wade; and sister, Arleta Lee.

A burial service will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 2 at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, 701 East J St., Oakdale.
