Two Oakdale residents died as a result of injuries sustained in collisions during the past week; one along Highway 108 on Jan. 14 and one in the area of East F Street on Jan. 15.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a pedestrian walking along the highway between Oakdale and Riverbank early morning on Wednesday, Jan. 14, died of injuries sustained when he walked into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.
According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred about 3:25 a.m.
Officials with the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office on Thursday, Jan. 15 identified the victim as Justin Bueno, 29, of Oakdale.
The CHP received a call of a traffic crash on Highway 108, east of Langworth Road. Emergency personnel arrived on scene and located Bueno lying in the roadway, with a Ford pickup nearby. Bueno was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck, a 67-year-old male from Modesto, was uninjured.
The preliminary investigation indicates the pickup truck driver was eastbound on Highway 108, east of Langworth Road. The report stated that Bueno, who was in the middle of the highway, proceeded in a southerly direction directly in front of the vehicle and was struck by the pickup truck.
In the second incident, police, fire and ambulance personnel responded to the 1400 block of East F Street, in the area of the Foothill Oaks Shopping Center, just after noon on Thursday, Jan. 15. Authorities reported that a subject was riding a bike and collided with a vehicle.
Crews arriving on scene began patient care after finding the subject on the ground; he was taken to an area hospital but subsequently died. Officials with the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Donald McAmoil, 48, of Oakdale.
