Riverbank Police Services deputies were involved in a pair of pursuits while on patrol during the past week, and both cases ended with officers making arrests.

On Wednesday, June 5 at approximately 11:30 a.m., a deputy was conducting a routine patrol around the area of Eighth Street and Patterson Road in Riverbank when he observed a Chevy Prizm driving westbound on Patterson Road at a high rate of speed.

The deputy began following the vehicle which then began driving into oncoming traffic. So the deputy attempted to do a traffic stop but the driver failed to yield and the traffic pursuit continued. The vehicle drove southbound on Terminal Avenue at high rates of speed and then proceeded eastbound on Iowa Avenue. The vehicle slowed down and the driver jumped out of the vehicle while it was still moving, authorities said. The driver fled on foot through residential yards and jumped multiple fences. The suspect did not put the vehicle he was driving in park so it crashed into another parked truck on Iowa Avenue.

Deputies quickly set up a perimeter and used a variety of resources including a K9 officer. They eventually located the suspect hiding in a garage on the south side of Patterson Road. The suspect would not come out of the garage. When the deputies made verbal contact with him he reportedly told them to just shoot him. A chemical agent was introduced into the garage and the suspect e eventually came out and was taken into custody without further incident.

He was identified as Patrick Hampton, 47. A records check of Hampton revealed that he had two felony warrants out of Tuolumne County. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for precautionary reasons as he stated he had swallowed meth. Hampton was medically cleared and booked for the two warrants, resisting, obstructing, delaying, reckless driving, evading, hit and run and a Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) violation.

Earlier in the week on June 2 during the 2 a.m. hour there was a property damage hit and run reported on Patterson Road. An unknown suspect drove a truck into a sound wall and power pole, causing a power outage in the area. The suspects fled the scene prior to deputies arriving on scene. The truck was stolen and was unreported out of Tracy. The case is still under investigation.

A couple hours later around 4:30 a.m. during the graveyard shift a deputy observed a motorist driving recklessly in the area of Burneyville and River Cove. The vehicle almost struck the deputy’s patrol car head on, forcing the deputy to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The deputy then attempted a traffic stop, however the vehicle did not pull over and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit air surveillance via helicopter and spike strips were effectively utilized. The pursuit ended up in the area of Coffee and Floyd in Modesto. The driver, identified as Jordin Arredondo, 28, then fled on foot from the vehicle but a Taser was utilized and he was arrested after a short foot pursuit. He was booked for felony evasion and resisting/obstructing/delaying.
