Presentations, budget top council agenda

It was a very busy council meeting in Riverbank last week, starting at 6 p.m. and continuing until well past 10 p.m.

The session covered a number of presentations, the upcoming budget, and more.

The June 10 get together started out with a number of presentations. The first recognized the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army. It was presented to Sergeant First Class Reid by Mayor Rachel Hernandez on behalf of the council.

The citation noted, in part “the collective expression of the pursuit of personal freedom that caused to the authorization and organization of the United States Army led to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the codification of the new nation’s basic principles and values in the Constitution;

“and no matter the cause, location or magnitude of future conflicts, the Nation can rely on the Army to produce well-trained, well-led and highly motivated soldiers to carry out the missions entrusted to them.”

Mayor Hernandez went on to proclaim June 14, 2025, to be the United States Army’s 250th Anniversary, “expressing appreciation, on behalf of the residents of Riverbank, to the United States Army and to the dedicated soldiers who have served in it for the 250 years it has been in existence.”

The mayor also presented a citation to the local Society for disABILITIES recognizing June as Disability Awareness Month.

She then issued a presentation honoring June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month, recognizing the contributions made by the community and actively promoting the principles of equality and liberty.

In regular business, the council had the first reading approving engineer’s reports and levying assessments for the city’s numerous Lighting and Landscaping Districts. The second reading and adoption of them will come at the June 24 council meeting.

The council then took part in a workshop on the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget, preparing for its final adoption on June 24.

Finally, the council agreed to establish a Youth Council to work in conjunction with the City Council, to engage youth voices in the City of Riverbank.
