Modesto gas prices have fallen 1.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.43/gallon on Sept. 9, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 2.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, yet stand 3.4 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.07 on Sept. 9 while the most expensive was $4.09, a difference of $1.02 per gallon. The lowest price in the state on Monday was $2.99 while the highest was $5.09, a difference of $2.10/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country on Monday, Sept. 9 was $1.84 while the most expensive was $5.09, a difference of $3.25/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1 cent per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.55/gallon. The national average is down 9.9 cents per gallon from a month ago, and stands 28.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.42, up 1.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.40; Oakland - $3.62, down 0.7 cents from $3.63; and San Jose - $3.58, up 2.4 cents from last week’s $3.55/gallon.

“While most of the country saw gas prices continuing to drop, it certainly was not all. The West Coast has had gas prices rise gently in recent weeks, but those increases likely won’t last,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.
