Recreational activities continue in Riverbank, in spite of the ongoing COVID pandemic, with lots of opportunities for exercise available through the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

A Hip-Hop dance class started up last week, with the hour-long sessions continuing on Mondays and Wednesdays through Nov. 4, when the class will perform for friends and family, possibly on the Plaza del Rio stage, according to instructor Stephanie Argumedo.

The classes are for local students 6 to 12 years of age. Registration is $40.

Argumedo says it’s not too late to start up with the class. They practice on the patio behind the Teen Center, on Santa Fe Street, next to the Community Center.

The Recreation Department can be contacted at 209-863-7150 to sign up or for more information.

More Dance Opportunities

There’s also a Zumba Gold class available for seniors, meaning older adults, not high school students.

It meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Registration fee is $3.

It is held at Zerillo Park, 2800 Briarcliff Drive, in River Heights.

There’s also a new class of Family Zumba, also with a fee of $3. That class meets at Castleberg Park, on Eighth Street, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15 p.m.

Other Classes

In addition, there’s a new Pound Fitness class, with a fee of $5, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.

It is held at the Riverbank Sports Complex on Morrill Road.

Finally, there’s a Tai-Chi class held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. at Silva Park on Antique Rose Way. The fee for this one is also $5.

Face masks and social distancing will be required to participate in all programs, officials said.
