Average gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 11.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.12/gallon as of May 13, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 30.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 63.8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.6 cents in the last week and stands at $3.90 per gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.58/gallon. The national average is down 3.7 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 6.1 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $4.59/gallon while the most expensive was $5.75, a difference of $1.16/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $4.19 while the highest was $6.99, a difference of $2.80/gallon.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $5.09/gallon, down 12.1 cents from $5.21; Oakland - $5.33, down 9.1 cents per gallon from $5.42; and San Jose - $5.31/gallon, down 10.0 cents from last week’s $5.41/gallon.
“While gas prices stand slightly above where they were last year, I expect most Americans will see prices fall before the (Memorial Day) holiday weekend, and I’m optimistic the trend could extend into June and beyond,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “I’m excited to say it does appear that for now, the worst is behind us.”
