A Saturday night shooting outside Riverbank left a teenager dead and police looking for the shooter.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 after a 911 call was placed regarding shots fired in the area, the 4700 block of Terminal Avenue. The home on Terminal is between Claribel and Plainview roads just south of Riverbank.

Killed in the shooting was a man identified by police as Damien King, 18, of Modesto, believed to have been shot at a house party. Authorities did not release an official motive for what prompted the shooting. King was found on the scene with a gunshot wound, taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead there.

The Modesto High senior was remembered at a Monday night vigil, attended by dozens of mourners, family and friends in Modesto.

Sheriff's Department spokesman, Sgt. Anthony Bejaran, said more than 100 people were believed to have been attending the Saturday night party but many had left before deputies arrived on scene. The house was near the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad and was described as a ranch-style home. Sheriff's deputies were assisted in the initial search for the shooter by officers from the Modesto Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Nearby property was searched, as was a neighboring orchard but Bejaran said authorities did not have anyone in custody in connection with the shooting. There were no other injuries reported.

Detectives from the sheriff's department are continuing to work on the case this week and said anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers and offer information anonymously. The phone number is 209-521-4636. Rewards are offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Texting of tips can also be done to 274637 by typing TIP704 and then the actual tip and message.
