A youth killed in a drive-by shooting in Empire on Sunday night has been identified as 16-year-old Rosendo Robles of Riverbank.

Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call of shots fired in the 5100 block of Inland Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. to find Robles with a gunshot wound, according to the Sheriff's Department. He was transported to a Modesto hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Robles and two other 17-year-old males were driving around Empire when their vehicle was shot multiple times by an unknown suspect on Inland Avenue, said a Sheriff's Department spokesman. Robles and a second juvenile were struck by the gunfire but the second juvenile's injuries were non-life threatening and the third occupant was not injured. The driver was able to reach Estates Drive and crashed into a car parked at the side of the road.

At this point, detectives are trying to determine what led up to the shooting. They do not have any suspect information and are investigating this as a gang-related homicide.
