Swooping and swirling all over the concrete rink, Zachary Kovacs, Austin Kidd and Daniel Garbez were the winners of Saturday's skateboarding competition at the Riverbank Skate Park.

Kovacs won the 11- to 14-year-old age group followed by Ernie Cuiriz in second place and Robby Harrison in third. Kidd led the 15-18 group trailed by Cody Steinberger in second place and Sean Malatte in third. Garbez and Devin Fuller placed first and second respectively in the 19 and older group.

Kovacs scored 138 points, Kidd 125 points and Garbez 130 points.

Organized by the city's Recreation and Parks Department with the help of the Woodpushers Board Shop, the event was postponed from September and expected to be on a smaller scale but appeared to draw as many spectators as ever.

A total of 19 skaters competed in the 11-14 age group and 15 in the 15-18 age group but only three in the 19 and older age group.

Generally held in late summer heat, the day was cool and cloudy with a few spots of rain spattering the ground at one point.
